23 and 24 September: A naturalist day to celebrate the Zoo’s 125th anniversary

Jornada Naturalista 12è Aniversari

On the Day of La Mercè—Barcelona’s Patron Saint Festival—the Barcelona Zoo opened its doors for the very first time. 125 years bringing animals and nature to citizens: a project that makes us as excited as on the very first day and to which we feel totally committed.

To share the celebration of this anniversary, we want to invite everybody to experience a very special day. At the hands of expert naturalists, we have prepared different participative workshops for next weekend (23-24 September) to learn more about the wild fauna and flora we have around us, the animals and plants we see when we go to the countryside, the sea or the mountains, and that we also see in our towns and cities.

Have a great time with your family and try out being true naturalists!

The participative workshops, included in the ticket price, with handle the topics that are detailed below. You can consult opening hours in the Activities section. Buy your tickets online and get a 50% discount (until 30 September) and then you won’t miss out on helping us celebrate our anniversary!

A World of Feathers: We will practice the scientific ringing of birds.

Rivers of Life: We will learn to recognise water quality by observing the invertebrates that live in it.

Tracking Methods: We will follow a journey full of signals that will help us to identify several vertebrates.

A Green Lung: We will identify trees and plants by their leaves and fruits, and then look for them at the Zoo.

Medicine of Conservation: We will practice tele-darts, or remote injection, a tool to take care of the Zoo's animals and of nature.

With Our Heads Underwater: We will observe different types of plankton with magnifying glasses and microscopes.

Fairy Tale Dragons and Frogs: We will discover the amphibians and reptiles that live around us in our urban environment.

The Eyes of the Night: We will present the creatures that come out when it gets dark.

And, further, the exhibition Spectacular Invertebrates 2 offers one more workshop at 4.00 pm, in addition to the regularly scheduled ones at 1.00 and 2.00 pm.

Helping us out with preparing these activities are the Catalan Institute of Ornithology, the Galanthus Association, Corredor Nature School, the Badalona Sea School and the exhibition Spectacular Invertebrates II.
