Ombu
Phytolacca dioica
A tree with a stunning trunk, above all at the base, which grows disproportionally and the bark of which seems wrinkled. The branches start growing from the base, resulting in flexible, long and pendulous branches. These trees are very vigorous and can burst through walls and pavements with their powerful roots that grow in search of humidity. As a whole, the foliage is dense and umbrella-shaped with the shade it provides fully justifying its name.
It seems that consuming small amounts of its leaves may have medicinal properties, but large quantities can kill animals and people.
