The main goal of the project is to contribute to the preservation of the West African chimpanzee, of the subspecies Pan troglodytes verus. Taking into account the critical status of the subspecies in Senegal and thanks to the experience acquired in the Jane Godall Institute after 6 years of program, the specific goals of the program are:

• To make an estimation of the chimpanzee communities living in the Rural Community of Dindéfélo, by means of camera traps, through the capture and recapture of images.

One of the requisites for a good species conservation strategy is to be aware of the number of chimpanzee communities living in the area, as well as delimiting their home and territory range. Due to the fact that the chimpanzees in the area are not accustomed, it is necessary to use indirect animal capture and recapture methods through camera traps, in order to identify them.

• To analyze connectivity availability of the habitat of the chimpanzees in the Rural Community of Dindéfélo and in the bordering area with Guinea.

To carry out an analysis of the habitat availability and its connectivity degree, in order to establish critical rehabilitation zones and improve the situation of the chimpanzees in the reserve.

• To study and comparison of the habitats of Pan troglodytes verus in the reserve.

To carry out a comparative study of the habitats of 3 groups of chimpanzees in the reserve, in order to obtain optimal habitat parameters, based on ecological studies and its demographic rates.
