Low-height tree with extensive foliage and numerous branches. The leaves are large, some oval-shaped and others with lobes, and in autumn their light green colour turns a truly stunning yellow. Trees with female flowers produce edible fruit, the mulberry. We do not currently know of any mulberry trees growing in the wild, nor in their place of origin.

The mulberry has been cultivated in China for 4,500 years as food for the silkworm. It was introduced to Europe for the same reason, as well as its ornamental use.
