High school's research project
Activity designed for students in final year of higher secondary school (batxillerat).
The subject for the higher secondary final research project is selected by each student, in coordination with his or her tutor. The Barcelona Zoo has prepared a course with the aim of advising students and contributing to helping them with their final project. The course is adapted to different requests made by students and, in parallel, guides and helps them select their topics.
Projects can be done on primates and other land mammals, birds and reptiles, as well as topics on how zoos are run and operated, endangered species...
Foster respect for animals through better knowledge and protection of nature.
Introduce the concepts of animal behaviour, innate behaviour and learned behaviour.
Learn to carefully observe animals’ behaviour and draw conclusions.
Learn about the concepts of conservation, research and education applied to zoos, upholding a good level of wellbeing for all species living at zoos.
Study the main types of reproduction and biological cycles in the animal world.
Embark on the classification and recognition of the different groups with the use of key dichotomies.
Present the biology and ecology of some animals.
To recognise the fauna from our country and the need of assuring their conservation.
Learn notions about genetic heredity.
