The locust changes colour according to its stage of development and whether it is alone or in a group: a solitary nymph is green or brown, but when in groups it is yellow or orange with black spots. In the gregarious adult stage, the locust is yellow or brownish when in groups, while solitary adults are brown or green, depending on the environment.
