TRAINING IN ZOOLOGICAL MEDICINE

Barcelona Zoo offers eight 3-month training placements in zoological medicine each year for 4th and 5th year veterinary students, or postgraduate students, who are interested in gaining practical experience in this discipline.

The training objectives of the placement include training in evidence-based veterinary practice in wildlife conservation and animal welfare, as well as critical analysis of data and information for informed decision making.

Extensive experience in training

The Barcelona Zoo Veterinary Service is a benchmark in the training of veterinarians in the field of zoological medicine. Formal veterinary training deals very little with wild species and there are few options for gaining practical experience. Therefore, the training opportunity we offer is a very interesting and sought-after option for students with an interest in developing a career in wildlife conservation and medicine.

For more than 40 years, veterinary science students from all over the world - nearly 90 since 2010 - have learned from our professionals and have excelled as professionals in renowned zoos, as veterinarians in exotic medicine or as university professors. We are very proud!
